Thank you so much for signing and spreading the petition. As we demanded, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has decided to hold a hearing while the Oyamadas will be in New York.
A Safety Hearing in the case of Ryo Oyamada
Date and Time: Monday, February 23rd at 9 a.m.
Location: DMV's Queens South Office.
We were able to deliver over 600 signature in three days and it helped to push the DMV to make this decision this quickly. We appreciate all supporters. Thank you very much!
The following is a message from Oyamada family.

The DMV has decided to hold a hearing while we will be in New York for the second year anniversary of Ryo's death, which is a very limited time. Gathering signatures in such a short time helped it a lot.
We thank you all from our bottom of our heart.
We are a Japanese family who don't know anything about the legal system of the U.S.. Some people have told us that it is too difficult for us to file a suit against the Police Department, and so we were prepared for the lawsuit in such a hard time. In such a situation, it was encouraging that many people raised their voice for us.
We should be able to give updated reports to you about the hearing through the blog writer.
At the hearing, we are going to face the officer who caused the accident. We will pull ourselves together and try to keep calm.
With my feeling of gratitude,
Thank you very much.

It is not easy to get the opportunity of the hearing. We cannot forget the path that the other activists and families have created while raising their voice. We think it couldn't happen without this path. We also appreciate the people and groups, such as Families For Safe Street and Right of Way. They continue to act with love for each victim, believing that they can change the future. "This might be the least thing they can do as a bereaved family, " the Oyamadas said about their activity as well.
We will report about the hearing and also the memorial in February.
Please keep supporting us.
