Through this website, we were able to meet one family who lost their precious three year old daughter, Allison Liao. Allison was fatally struck by a car when she was crossing the street with her grandmother in Queens, NY, on October 3rd in 2013. They had the right-of-way to cross the street, but the driver of the car turned left at a green light.

Their speech is very powerful and very emotional. We should all ask ourself "is it worth it" to hurt someone by driving fast to be get to our destination a couple minutes earlier.
Amy and Hsi-Pei asked Oyamadas to join the group they organized for the family who lost their family member in the traffic incident, Family for SAFE Street. Family for SAFE Street is organized to speak up about their pain losing their loved ones and demand to end traffic violence. More specifically, they will support the Vision Zero Action Plan, which the Mayor de Blasio proposed. Some of the group members already had a meeting with the Mayor and they will continue to give the opinions to make the Vision Zero plan really happen. For example, De Blasio has proposed a 25 mph citywide speed limit, but the families fight to push for a 20 mph limit.
Sunday, February 23rd, the press conference for this group was held at the City Hall Park in New York. Since it was only two days after the first anniversary of Ryo's death, Ryo's sisters happened to be in New York and were able to attend the conference.

Twenty-five families got together for the same goal of no more families feeling this pain of losing their loved ones. Ryo's sisters said they were touched that so many people knew about Ryo's accident and gave them kind words. And they were able to meet the group members who painted Ryo's memorial. Ryo's sister, Tomoko said "It was a very strong meeting. Even though everyone is in pain losing their family, they are strongly carrying their voice to change the situation in New York."
At the end of the day, they were extremely encouraged to be with a family that knows the same pain and hopes for the same future: no more tragedy like Ryo.
